Years ago I had a trainer recommend that I do less intense workouts to make it easier for me to fit in more consistent workouts.  Well, I never!  LOL… Well, now I do.

What I didn’t understand then was I really like to do things all out, or not at all.  And life, well life doesn’t always make time for doing everything we want.  So, it’s been my new plan to do what I can, when I can fit it in.  I have changed my schedule this semester to include, wait for it…. breaks in my schedule.  On these breaks, I can do things like work out, go for a walk, take a nap or even watch something mindless.  I’m actually scheduling in breaks, and it’s not killing me.  What I have noticed is that I have done this with my studies for years. I have always scheduled several hours of focused homework and then I take a break and do something else.  Even if that break is short the change of scenery allows my mind to rest and get prepared to focus again.  It has been a very successful study tactic for years, so I decided to see if I could apply it to the rest of my life.

I’m starting to add this concept to my life by adding breaks for something other than what I’m doing. Even a 30-minute walk is a nice change of pace and rejuvenates my mind and body.  I can practice some breathing exercises or even do some walking meditation.  It’s not the hour or two that I used to have, but for me, moving and getting outdoors is a great way to rejuvenate my mind and spirit.
